What a cold foil roll is

A cold foil roll is a slit reel of vacuum-metallised PET film wound onto a 76 mm core, used on UV-flexo, UV-offset and sheetfed offset presses fitted with a cold-foil transfer module. The metallising is released onto a UV-cured adhesive image printed on the substrate — no heat, no die.

  • Carrier: PET film, 12 µm / 19 µm (default) / 23 µm.
  • Metallising: vacuum-deposited aluminium, optical density 2.2–2.6.
  • Colour: pigmented lacquer above the metallising for Pantone Metallic tints; embossed hologram optional.
  • Core: 76 mm (3") ID; 152 mm (6") on request for jumbo formats.
  • Wind: standard face-out; face-in available for specific press configurations.

  • Sample and short-run reels: 200 or 250 mm × 50–100 lm on 76 mm core, dispatched in 48 hours.

Lead time, packaging and shipping

Stock shades ship ex-works in 7–14 days. Rolls are wrapped in aluminium-foil moisture barrier, boxed with silica desiccant, and stacked on ISPM-15 heat-treated pallets — 24 rolls per pallet for narrow-web, 4–6 jumbos per pallet for sheetfed widths. Storage life is 12 months at 15–25 °C / 40–60 % RH per industry storage guidance.

Sample rolls: DHL / FedEx Express, typically 2–4 business days to US, EU, UK, JP, AU. Production orders: 20'/40' FCL sea freight from Wenzhou / Shanghai; DDP terms to overseas destinations can be arranged on request.

How to specify a cold foil roll order

  • Press make and model + cold-foil module (e.g. Nilpeter FA-22 with Prindor).
  • UV adhesive brand and grade (e.g. INX AF-2110, Actega Colorpoint EB) + cure energy target (mJ/cm²).
  • Anilox BCM and lpi feeding the adhesive station.
  • Substrate (paper, BOPP, PET, PVC, PP tube laminate) and GSM.
  • Target Pantone Metallic reference or physical swatch photo.
  • Slit width(s), roll length(s), core ID and wind direction.
