What is a cold foil sample roll?
A cold foil sample roll is a short 50–100 linear-meter length of production-grade metallised PET cold stamping foil, supplied free to packaging printers so they can run a press qualification trial — verifying adhesion, coverage, register and color match on their own UV-flexo, UV-offset or sheetfed press before booking a wholesale production order.
What's in the box
Every free sample kit is packed for a same-day press trial — enough roll length for a full qualification shift, a lot-specific CoA and a complete compliance dossier your QA team can pre-approve while the parcel is in transit.
200 mm or 250 mm wide × 50–100 linear meters of production-grade cold stamping foil on a 76 mm (3") core — enough for a full press qualification shift.
Every sample roll ships with a CoA covering color ΔE vs. master swatch, coating weight, adhesion (ASTM D3359) and REACH SVHC declaration.
REACH, RoHS, EU 10/2011, FDA 21 CFR 175.105 and California Prop 65 statements — emailed with the tracking number so QA can pre-approve.
48-hour dispatch, 2–4 business days to US, EU, UK, JP and AU. We pay outbound freight and duties for qualified converters.
Sample shades
Ten stock shades ship as free samples — including the four most-requested colors for wine, spirits, cosmetics and folding cartons. Up to 3 shades per company per quarter at no cost; additional shades are $35 each with freight included.

Pantone 871–874 C reference. Wine, spirits, luxury cartons.

High-brilliance silver for cosmetics, electronics and PSL labels.

Warm pink metallic — beauty, fragrance, craft spirits.

Pale warm gold for prestige wine and champagne labels.

Deep warm metallic for craft beer, coffee and dark cartons.

Rainbow and pillar patterns for security and shelf standout.
How to request
A five-step process from first email to a qualified production PO. Most stock-shade samples dispatch within one business day.

Reply to the request form with press make/model, cold-foil module, adhesive brand, anilox BCM, cure energy (mJ/cm²) and substrate GSM. This routes your sample to the right foil chemistry (UV cationic, free-radical or water-based).
Our color lab confirms the closest stock match (or a Pantone Metallic pre-match) within 4 business hours and pulls a lot from stock. A lot-specific CoA is generated the same day.
200–250 mm × 50–100 lm on a 76 mm core, boxed with silica desiccant, tracking number emailed via DHL Express or FedEx Priority.
A production engineer joins your press trial by video to tune anilox coverage, pull-tension and adhesive laydown. Most trials qualify in a single shift.
Once the press trial passes, we lock the master pigment lot for 24 months and quote the wholesale roll at mill-direct pricing — MOQ 1,000 lm per slit width.
Sample eligibility
The free-sample program is designed for teams that will actually run a press trial. Brand-side designers evaluating look-and-feel can order a paid swatch card instead.

Press qualification playbook
A sample roll is only useful if the press trial produces a decision. The 50–100 lm we ship is calibrated to give a converter roughly 8,000 impressions on a UV-flexo label press or 6,000 sheets on a sheetfed offset — enough to lock in adhesive laydown, anilox coverage and register, then run a real customer job as a live confirmation.
Five KPIs decide whether a foil qualifies. First, adhesion by ASTM D3359 cross-hatch — a passing foil scores 4B or higher on the target substrate. Second, coverage rate: a well-matched foil transfers at 1.0–1.1× the printed area, a poor match at 1.4× or more, which destroys the landed cost per label. Third, pinhole rate under a 10× loupe or a 100 % camera inspection — anything above two pinholes per square meter fails packaging QA. Fourth, register accuracy across a 1,000-impression run, targeting under ±0.15 mm. Fifth, color match measured with a spectrophotometer against the approved swatch, targeting ΔE00 ≤ 1.5.
Roughly 70 % of first-time cold foil trials fail on one of three things. Adhesive undercure — increase UV dose by 15–20 % or switch to a higher-reactivity photoinitiator. Anilox too coarse — a 400–500 lpi anilox at 3.5–4.5 BCM is the safe starting point for UV cationic cold foil; anything coarser floods the substrate and leaves halo. Pull- tension too low — cold foil webs at 12 µm need 18–25 N of tension for a stable transfer nip; check the dancer roller before blaming the foil. Our engineers pre-flag which of these is likely for your press model before the sample ships.
A qualifying trial locks the master pigment lot to your account for 24 months. That means every reorder pulls color from the same vacuum-metallised batch, holding ΔE00 within 1.5 for the full program — no mid-campaign color drift, no re-qualification. First production runs at MOQ 1,000 lm per slit width with 7–14 day ex-works lead time; reorders from a bonded warehouse in Los Angeles or Rotterdam ship in 3–7 days DDP.
